Course Outline

 

Week 1:

 

 Introduction to Workshop Health and Safety

 Complete enrolment and Health and Safety guideline forms.

bullet

 Fire Extinguishers: explain their use and operation.

bullet

 Oil spillages: what to do.

bullet

 Identify hazardous chemicals and understand the dangers.

bullet

 Explain location of tools and their proper use.

 

Motorcycle Controls

bullet

Identification of controls:  Handlebars

                                                  Light switches

                                                  Foot pegs

bullet

Identification of major Components:   Engine

                                                                   Transmission train 

bullet

Basic tools exercise:  Remove and refit fuel tank

                                          Remove and refit side panels.

Week 2:

Introduction to rolling chassis.

Introduction to:   Braking systems (disc and drum)

                                     Steering (headbearings)

                                     Suspension (wheel, tyres, monoshock, twin shock, Front forks).

bullet

Practical exercise: Remove and refit front wheel.

                                       Inspect braking system.

 

Week 3: 

Servicing and Maintenance.

Explain the importance of regular servicing

bullet

 Explain various aspects of servicing i.e. daily and weekly checks.

bullet

Practical exercise:   Drain and refill gearbox oil

                                         Remove and replace air filter

                                         Check and adjust chain and sprocket

                                         Explain maintenance checklist.
